Rockland Readies for Torrential Downpour Tonight
Rockland Daily Staff
Rockland is in for more rain with the potential of heavy flooding as a major rainstorm rolls in tonight.
There is a flood watch from 6 p.m. tonight to 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, as 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain is expected in the upcoming downpour. The runoff from that amount of rain mixed with the weekend's melting snow will likely cause flooding due to the overload of water on the already saturated ground.
While the rain is expected to dissipate by 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the flood watch will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
After a day's break, there will be another chance for flooding accompanied by strong, damaging winds from Friday night through Shabbos day. Gusting 18-30 mph winds could lead to downed trees and power outages.
"We are preparing to mobilize our emergency workforce as our region is expecting a severe weather event bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding starting Tuesday evening," Orange and Rockland states on X. "Please stay away from downed wires as they may be live and report any service interruptions by texting "OUT" to 69678."
