Rockland County Lowers Flags To Honor Victims Of American Airlines and Black Hawk Helicopter Collision

On Wednesday night a horrific accident shook the nation when an American Airlines commercial airplane collided mid-air with a Blackhawk military helicopter. The aircrafts fell into the Potomac River, near the Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, D.C., where the American Airlines flight was about to land. It is reported that 64 passengers and staff were aboard the plane, and three soldiers were on the helicopter. No survivors are expected and 30 bodies have been recovered from the river as of Thursday morning, making it the deadliest plane crash in the US since 2009.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day released a statement about the tragedy and announced that all county flags will be lowered to half-staff to honor the victims of the crash.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic collision between American Airlines flight 5342 and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter... " Day said in the statement. "As per existing protocal, county flags will be lowered to half-staff to honor the victims. My administration extends our deepest condolences to all those affected during this difficult time."
