Ramapo Police Investigate Reported Suspicious Incident at Airmont Bus Stop

The Ramapo Police Department launched an investigation following a report from a concerned parent regarding an interaction at a school bus stop in Airmont on February 13, 2025.
According to police, the parent reported that a male driver in a white SUV stopped at the bus stop and offered a ride to her daughter. The student declined, and the vehicle left the scene without further incident.
Ramapo officers and detectives immediately began efforts to identify the driver, utilizing video footage, license plate reader data, DMV records, and other investigative tools. The investigation led to the identification of an Airmont resident as the driver in question.
When interviewed by authorities, the driver stated that he offered the student a ride due to the cold weather, something he had done in the past within his community. However, he acknowledged that his actions could be perceived as concerning. His account was consistent with the student’s report, confirming that he had asked if she needed a ride, she declined, and he drove away.
Police confirmed that no prior reports of similar incidents involving this individual had been made. They also stated that under New York State law, there was no basis for a probable cause arrest based on the circumstances of the case.
In response to the incident, Ramapo officers were stationed at the bus stop on Friday, supported by their Unmanned Aerial System to enhance public safety. Officials also emphasized the importance of parents discussing school bus stop safety and “stranger danger” with their children.
As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure student safety, the Ramapo Police Department reported conducting 1,345 school-related security checks so far this year, a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year. These checks include monitoring school buses and bus stops as part of routine patrols.
