By Idy Perl
O&R is warning customers about scammers that are out there pretending to be from O&R. These scammers can contact O&R customers through various different methods, and its important to be aware of them all.
Phone: The most common way scammers reach out to customers is over the phone. They may even be able to manipulate the Caller ID to make it look like they're calling from O&R, and will often threaten that the power may be turned off or demand immmediate payment through a prepaid credit card.
Door-To-Door: Other scammers can show up at customers' homes and claim to be from O&R. Always ask to see credentials to ensure they're real O&R staff. Real employees will readily show their ID and will always be wearing a photo ID with their name and emplyee number. To verify an employee's identity, call 845-577-3526 during business hours or 833-460-7059 after hours.
If you suspect a scammers has contacted you, notify either the police or call the previously listed O&R numbers.
