By Rockland Daily Staff
NY Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins visited the heimish community in Rockland County today upon an invitation from former state senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, as previously reported here.
Stewart-Cousins made several stops in Rockland County throughout the afternoon, closely observing the pulse of the Jewish community. She began with a visit to the Pupa Girls School at 246 North Main St., where she enjoyed a tour of the school and met with the young students and staff.
Her next stop was Good Samaritan Hospital, where she toured the new Labor and Delivery Department, including the Shabbos elevator and state-of-the-art facilities. Outside the hospital, she met with Hatzalah of Rockland members. Notably, Elijah secured a $160,000 grant to help cover the cost of constructing garage space for ambulances in Airmont.
Additionally, she met with the Rockland Jewish Alliance to discuss antisemitism, particularly in light of the challenges since October 7 and the harm caused by social media. The day concluded at the Chern home, where the fundraiser event was held. A full report on this event will follow.
Elijah Reichlin-Melnick told Rockland Daily, “I'm grateful to State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for accepting my invitation to visit Ramapo this afternoon. It's important to me to fully and fairly represent every part of Rockland, and having the opportunity to welcome Leader Stewart-Cousins to see first-hand the richness of the community in Ramapo made today very special.
"When Rockland County has a strong voice in Albany, who can bring the most powerful leaders in New York State to see our County's needs, all of our communities benefit. I look forward to returning to Albany to fight for Rockland County and working with the Majority Leader to deliver results for the entire community. Thank you to the Pupa Girls School and Good Samaritan Hospital for welcoming us today,” he concluded.
Legislator Aron Wieder told Rockland Daily, “It is an honor to welcome the Senate Leader to Rockland County. I was particularly glad that the leader got to visit a local private girls' school where she saw firsthand the great education these girls receive.”
