Hochul Announces Results of 25 Enforcement Operations
By Idy Perl
Governor Hochul announced yesterday that over the last few months, 25 enforcement operations focusing on ghost plates and toll violators have taken place across the state.
These operations resulted in the impounding of 1,540 vehicles, 339 arrests, and the issuance of 12,007 summonses. The combined unpaid tolls and fees from these violations total more than $12.5 million.
“Ghost plates and toll evasion cost our state millions each year and impede our efforts to build a mass transit system that benefits everyone,” Governor Hochul said. “Our heightened enforcement efforts are cracking down on the brazen lawlessness that has gone unchecked for too long, and our message is simple: enough is enough.”
During the operations, multiple significant cases were uncovered. These included an individual with a loaded firearm in their vehicle, a person wanted for tampering with public records and theft of service, a person of interest in a Brooklyn shooting, and co-defendants in a grand larceny pattern involving stolen credit cards.
