Governor Hochul Speaks on Improved Infrastructure, with Focus on Rockland County
By Rockland Daily Staff
Governor Kathy Hochul initiated new infrastructure projects in Rockland County on Friday, aimed at bolstering transportation options and fortifying key corridors.
The $11 million complete street corridor project will enhance a 1.36-mile stretch of Route 45 (Main Street) in the Village of Spring Valley, Rockland County, from State Route 59 to West Eckerson Road. These enhancements, set for completion in early 2026, include new left-turn lanes, updated traffic signals, crosswalks, sidewalk curb ramps, and accessible pedestrian signal equipment. Additionally, bicyclists will benefit from shared lane markings, and traffic calming measures will be implemented to reduce speeds.
"Significant enhancements along State Routes 45 and 59 are urgently needed, as well as critical road resurfacing," Senator Bill Weber shares with Rockland Daily. "Many thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul for her attention to the infrastructure needs of the 38th Senate District and the substantial funding allocated to address them."
Furthermore, the project will cater to multi-modal users with the addition of benches, bike racks, and replacement bus shelters along the corridor. The endeavor also prioritizes aesthetics, with efforts to protect or restore existing landscapes to enhance the village's streetscape.
Scheduled for completion in Fall 2024, another project will replace existing pavement with a longer-lasting, fiber-reinforced asphalt overlay, and incorporate grooved inlaid striping with reflective epoxy paint for increased visibility during storms. Governor Hochul's commitment to comprehensive infrastructure improvements underscores a strategic approach to enhancing safety, accessibility, and durability across Rockland County and the wider Hudson Valley region.
Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht said, “The commencement of the Route 45 complete street corridor project is very welcome news in the Town of Ramapo. The improvements that the Department of Transportation are undertaking will increase pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow for our drivers and enhance our residents’ quality of life. I’d like to thank Governor Hochul and NYS DOT for listening to our concerns and moving forward with these much-needed infrastructure upgrades.”
