Full Speed Ahead With Resolutions For Union Rd and Elm St Intersection

By Idy Perl
Rockland Daily recently reported on the roundtable meeting that Congressman Mike Lawler held with local officials to discuss traffic issues in Rockland County, including the problematic intersection between Union Rd and Elm St. Frustrated Spring Valley residents have long been waiting for something to be done about that intersection, since the angles of the intersection create challenges when making a left turn and causes traffic to pile up.
Recently, the town initiated a traffic study to gather information
regarding the traffic patterns of the intersection. The study identified the hours
when traffic peaks, which are between 8AM-9AM and 5PM-6PM, and the challenges
that arise from the geometry between Elm St, Union Rd, and Anthony Dr. The
researchers also looked at the number of accidents that have occurred at the
intersection, which totals 17 incidents between September 2020 through September
2023.
Rockland Daily spoke with Deputy Mayor Sruly Eisenbach, who confirmed
that there is a meeting between the Town and the Village scheduled for this
Thursday to discuss possible resolutions for the intersection.
“We are hoping to come up with possible solutions and plans on how to implement them,”
Deputy Mayor Eisenbach says. “The credit for this project goes to Town Supervisor Michael Specht and Chief of Staff Mona Montal, who spearheaded this study and are working to resolve the issues. With their help
we will hopefully be able to solve the challenges of this intersection very
soon.”
