FAA Called out for Canceling and Delaying Flights Because of Poor Weather
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby joined the hue and cry after the FAA canceled thousands of flights last week, leading to the domino effect reflected in the growing number of delays that followed throughout the week.
Since Monday, nearly 6,000 flights into and out of the U.S. have been canceled, according to data from flight tracker FlightAware. More than 150,000 United ticket holders were included in that number which left thousands stranded at the airport, as reported by Rockland Daily here.
"I'm … frustrated that the FAA frankly failed us this weekend," Kirby told employees in an email sent yesterday after would-be flyers stuck at Newark blamed United's lack of adequate staffing for their troubles. "As you know, the weather we saw in EWR is something that the FAA has historically been able to manage without a severe impact on our operation and customers."
