Exploring Rockland: Greg Sikorsky Children’s Park
By Idy Perl
Lime Kiln Children’s Park is a little-known small, cozy park
that sits on Lime Kiln Road in Wesley Hills.
Officially named the Greg Sikorsky Children’s Park after a
Wesley Hills firefighter who died on 9/11, this neighborhood parks has
everything you need for a nice afternoon outing or a brisk morning walk.
After parking in the shoulder on the right side of the road,
the first thing visitors will see is a gated park with fun structures for kids
to play on. There are several slides, swings, monkey bars, and various climbing
structures, in addition to benches all around the perimeter from where parents
can keep an eye on their kids.
In addition, right behind the gated park there is a
beautiful lake with a fountain in the middle, where the odd stork or two can
sometimes be spotted. The lake is surrounded by a quarter mile trail under the
cool shadow of trees, which makes for a beautiful and peaceful walking or
running trail.
