Shell gas station, New York State's fourth largest gas station chain, announced plans to close 1,000 locations nationwide.
The announcement was made in the company's Energy Transition Strategy 2024 Report.
Five hundred locations will close by the end of 2024, with an additional 500 shutting down in 2025.
The gas station giant operates 46,000 Shell retail locations, including 12,500 convenience stores. There are 300 Shell stations in New York.
The company said in the report that the move was aimed at reallocating those resources by 2030 towards EV charging stations "in response to customer needs."
