Rockland Officials React to New Orleans Terror Attack

Rockland County leaders have expressed their condolences and condemnation following the tragic events in New Orleans, where a vehicle attack resulted in multiple fatalities and many injuries.
County Executive Ed Day stated, “I am deeply saddened and outraged by the horrific attack in New Orleans that claimed the lives of at least 15 innocent people and injured dozens more. On behalf of all Rockland County residents, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, the injured, and the entire New Orleans community during this unimaginably difficult time.”
Day reassured local residents, noting, “I want to reassure Rockland residents that our law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the situation. At this time, there is no indication of any immediate threat or risk to our community. Our local, state, and federal partners remain vigilant and committed to keeping our residents safe.”
Congressman Mike Lawler also expressed his horror at the incident, stating on X: “I am horrified by the news out of New Orleans, where New Year’s revelers were senselessly mowed down. Those who lost their loved ones deserve answers, and we must get to the bottom of how this terrorist attack unfolded and who was responsible for it.”
Supervisor Michael Specht took to X to share his sentiments: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the two police officers who were shot during the attack in New Orleans, as well as the victims and families impacted by this tragic act of violence that occurred early on New Year’s Day.”
Governor Kathy Hochul addressed the situation, emphasizing the state’s vigilance: “The terrorist attack that occurred in New Orleans this morning is a horrible reminder of the threat terrorism of all stripes poses to our country, our freedom, and our way of life. We fully condemn the cowardly act of evil against innocent New Year’s revelers.” She added that while there is no known connection to New York State, the New York State Police have been directed to be on high alert as details continue to unfold.
The attack in New Orleans involved a driver who intentionally rammed a vehicle into a crowd on Bourbon Street, resulting in 15 deaths and multiple injuries. The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
