By Idy Perl

After 25 years of dedicated service to the Ramapo community, Detective Wayne Mitchell retired from the Ramapo Police force last Friday.

Detective Mitchell is an army veteran who served during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and later began his policing career with the Rockland County Narcotics Task Force in 2000. He then joined the Ramapo Police in 2001, where he served in numerous roles, including Adopt-a-Cop officer, Firearms Instructor, Drill Instructor at the Rockland County Police Academy, and a member of the Ramapo Police Honor Guard.

Detective Mitchell led and assisted in many investigations during his time as a detective, and worked on terrorist threats, hate crimes, and homicides. His hard work earned him multiple commendations and awards over the years.

The Town of Ramapo thanks Detective Mitchell for his dedicated service to the community.
