Ramapo Police Department Arrests Five for Impaired Driving
By Rockland Daily Staff
The Ramapo Police Department has made five arrests of impaired drivers over the past few days.
The arrests were made for those driving while intoxicated (DWI) or while Driving With Ability Impaired (DWAI), which is an offense in New York State that involves driving while impaired with a lower blood alcohol content (BAC) than a DWI. FOR a DWAI, a driver must have 0.05 percent to 0.07 percent blood alcohol level (BAC) as opposed to a DWI charge when the driver must have 0.08 percent BAC or higher, according to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles. Penalties for DWAI are usually less severe than for a DWI conviction. However, it can still include a fine, jail time, and a driver’s license suspension or revocation.
All five arrested were processed and released on recognizance with no bail. Among the five was a 34-year-old male from Nanuet, a 45-year-old female from Franklin, New Jersey, a 34-year-old male from Spring Valley, a 46-year-old male from Pearl River & a 74-year-old male from Nanuet.
