Update: Barricaded Male Arrested In Suffern
By Idy Perl
The standoff that caused a shelter in place warning to be ordered for Suffern residents in the Knolls area earlier today has ended peacefully after several hours of negotiations and hard from from local law enforcement.
Suffern Mayor Mike Curley told Rockland Daily that the Suffern Police Department initially received a call in the morning from concerned family members that the suspect, a male in his 20s, had barricaded himself in a room with a large knife and might be a danger to himself and others. Multiple law enforcement teams responded to the scene, including the Suffern Police Department, the Rockland Sheriff's Department, REACT (SWAT), and a trained negotiation team.
After two tense hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered to the police and was arrested at the scene without any force. The suspect had previously been charged with crimes and was out on bail.
Once the suspect was safely in custody, the Suffern Police announced that the shelter in place order was lifted.
