Upcoming Spring Closure: Exit 9W on the Palisades Parkway

YS GOLD

Drivers on the Palisades Parkway should make the most of the current access to Exit 9W, as the temporary winter reprieve is nearly over.

While the ramp connecting PIP South to the Thruway North has provided a welcome break from frustrating detours over the past few months, a full closure is imminent as the spring construction season begins.

The exit was initially reopened only as a seasonal measure after crews discovered significant structural issues connected to Route 304. These repairs proved to be more complex than originally anticipated and were deemed unsafe or impractical to complete during the freezing winter months.

With warmer weather returning, the New York State DOT is prepared to resume the "main phase" of the project to address these deeper structural needs.

While the ramp remains open today, the winter break in the construction schedule is officially winding down. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert for updated roadside signage and to begin planning for the return of alternate routes, as the exit will soon close again for an extended period to allow for these critical repairs.

Assemblyman Aron Wieder reached out to the State DOT about the upcoming ramp closure on the PIP exit 9W to I-87 North and was shared the following:

At this time, we expect the ramp to close on or about March 25 to facilitate the removal of the bridge deck from the State Route 304 overpass. The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the 2026 construction season as additional work, including replacement of the bridge pedestals and bearings and utility installation, takes place. We understand that the prolonged ramp closures have caused inconvenience and we appreciate the community’s patience as we undertake this important project to rehabilitate the State Route 304 bridge over the Thruway, which has required more extensive work than was initially expected.

While the ramp remains open today, the winter break in the construction schedule is officially winding down. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert for updated roadside signage and to begin planning for the return of alternate routes, as the exit will soon close again for an extended period to allow for these critical repairs.
