Thiells Fire Department Hosts Electric Vehicle Fire Training Drill

Thiells Fire Department held a hands-on training drill this week focused on the challenges of electric vehicle fires, as part of its ongoing preparedness efforts.
The session was led by department member and New York State Fire Instructor John Checo, who walked firefighters through the hazards and complexities involved in responding to EV-related incidents.
The training took place at the Thiells Fire Department David B. Roche Volunteer Firehouse, where members gathered around multiple electric vehicles to get a closer look at key components and response considerations in real-world scenarios.
Schultz Ford provided the vehicles used during the drill, allowing firefighters to better understand how EV systems are structured and how they behave in emergency situations.
The training is part of a continued effort to stay up to date with evolving vehicle technology and ensure firefighters are prepared for newer types of incidents on the road.
