Senator Bill Weber Releases Statement on Newly Announced Opponent for State Senate Seat

After Nyack Mayor Joe Rand announced this morning that he is running for the New York State Senate in District 38, currently represented by Republican State Senator Bill Weber, Weber released the following statement:

State Senator Bill Weber welcomes the democratic process and any current and future opponents. Today, he reaffirmed his commitment to the residents of the 38th Senate District, highlighting his strong record of results, community engagement, and bipartisan leadership since taking office in January 2023.

“Serving the people of Rockland County has been the privilege of my lifetime, and I fully intend to continue this work for many years to come,” the Senator said.

Since entering the Senate, he and his staff have delivered significant accomplishments across the district. As the ranking member of the Senate Disabilities Committee, Senator Weber has emerged as a statewide leader—bringing the OPWDD Commissioner to Rockland, championing meaningful reforms, and standing up for individuals and families with disabilities.

He has also been a vocal advocate for both public and private education. Senator Weber serves on several key committees, including the coveted Education Committee, as well as the Finance Committee, Budget and Revenue Committee, Consumer Protection Committee, and Children and Families Committee. In the summer of 2024, his office convened a bipartisan Foundation Aid Forum that helped secure the additional $38 million in state aid ultimately awarded to Rockland County schools for the 2025/2026 school year. He continues to fight for fair funding formulas for all Rockland County school districts.

Through veterans, seniors, and student advisory councils, Senator Weber has kept residents engaged in the policymaking process. One of his proudest legislative achievements includes the recent passage and signing into law of the Orangetown Preservation Fund. His creation of the Senate Antisemitism Working Group has led to the introduction of meaningful legislation.

Senator Weber's office has resolved more than 3,000 constituent service cases and hosted community-focused senior fairs, veterans’ appreciation events, coat and school supply drives and a popular five-town blood drive competition.

Drawing on his background as the son and brother of retired and active police officers, he remains a steadfast supporter of law enforcement. And as one of only two Certified Public Accountants serving in the entire New York State Legislature, he brings a rare level of financial expertise to Albany—advocating for fiscal responsibility, spending discipline, and reducing waste on behalf of taxpayers.

Following a decisive victory in 2022 and an even larger margin in 2024—tripling his previous win—Senator Weber welcomes the democratic process and any future challengers.

“I welcome competition from any opponents—it's the American way,” Senator Weber said. “I’m proud of my accomplishments in the NYS Senate, and I look forward to once again earning the overwhelming support of Rockland voters.
