Nyack Mayor Joe Rand Announces Bid for New York State Senate in District 38
By Yisroel R.
Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, a Democrat, announced this week that he is running for the New York State Senate in District 38, a seat currently held by Republican State Senator Bill Weber. Rand released a statement outlining his reasons for entering the race as well as the issues he plans to focus on during his campaign.
Rand highlighted his work in Nyack, including securing state and federal grants for local improvements, supporting small businesses, and staying within the tax cap during his term. Before entering public office, Rand worked in real estate management and previously held roles in law and higher education.
His campaign platform includes addressing affordability, supporting public safety initiatives, improving infrastructure, and protecting natural resources. Rand noted that he hopes to bring what he called a “practical, solutions-driven approach” to Albany.
In this election, Rand will be challenging State Senator Bill Weber, who has represented District 38 since 2022. Senator Weber is well known in the community, and the race is expected to draw significant attention as the campaign progresses.
Former State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick endorsed Rand’s campaign, praising his work as mayor and his approach to government. Reichlin-Melnick said he has “seen how much Joe has accomplished in Nyack” and believes Rand has “what it takes to deliver for Rockland in Albany.”
The election for State Senate District 38 will take place in November 2026.
