Rockland Students Honored for Hands-On Service

By Y.M. Lowy
This summer, 26 young members of the Rockland Conservation and Service Corps spent their days working on outdoor projects across the county. Now, they are inviting the public to celebrate everything they’ve accomplished. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the program.
The event will take place on Thursday, August 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona. Visitors can walk through project displays, learn about the work that has been done, and attend an award presentation at 2 p.m.
Over the past few months, members completed 9100 hours of service at 11 different sites. They helped fix up hiking trails, prevent flooding, and remove harmful plants.
Some of the places they worked at include Bear Mountain State Park, the Rockland County Farm Network, Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
