Mike Lawler Calls on Hochul to Act on the CHPE Construction Issues
Congressman Mike Lawler held a press conference in Stony Point to address the ongoing disruptions caused by the Champlain Hudson Power Express project.
Joined by bipartisan officials, first responders, and local business owners, Lawler urged Governor Kathy Hochul and state agencies to take responsibility for managing the road construction and to provide relief for small businesses affected by it.
Speakers described how the project has led to traffic congestion, delayed emergency response times, and financial losses for local shops and restaurants. They called on the state to step in with stronger oversight and direct support for impacted communities.
The Champlain Hudson Power Express is a large-scale clean energy project that will carry renewable hydroelectric power from Canada to New York City through underground transmission lines. While widely praised for its environmental benefits, the project has drawn criticism in Rockland County for the strain it has placed on residents and businesses during construction.
