Rockland County Highlights Emergency Generator Preparedness in Weekly Safety Series
As part of its ongoing “Did You Know?” safety awareness series, the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services is drawing attention this week to its fleet of portable generators - an essential resource for emergency response across the county.
According to the Office’s Emergency Management Division, the county currently maintains over 50 portable generators of various sizes, all of which can be quickly deployed to municipalities in the event of a disaster. These generators are used to power critical infrastructure, including:
- Traffic lights
- Life-saving medical equipment
- Emergency shelters
- Other essential services
Officials emphasized that the generators are kept in a state of readiness through routine maintenance and repair, ensuring they’re fully operational when emergencies strike.
“Preparedness saves lives,” the department stated, underscoring its commitment to being ready when communities need support the most.
The weekly “Did You Know?” campaign aims to educate the public about behind-the-scenes operations that play a vital role in public safety and emergency response throughout Rockland County.
