Haverstraw Police Release Statement on High-Speed Chase and Armed Standoff in Rockland County

On Saturday evening at approximately 11:00 PM, the Haverstraw Police Department responded to a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm. Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled his residence in a vehicle while armed.

Haverstraw Police units located the vehicle traveling on Route 9W in the Village of Haverstraw and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect failed to comply and led officers on a high-speed pursuit that extended across multiple jurisdictions throughout Rockland County.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle struck multiple police vehicles, resulting in the injury of one officer. The injured officer was treated and released from Nyack Hospital.

The pursuit ultimately concluded in the Town of Clarkstown in the area of Zucker Road and Old Route 304, where the suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle with the firearm displayed and refused to surrender. A multi-hour standoff followed.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts and professionalism of all agencies involved, the incident was brought to a safe resolution. The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and turned over the firearm.

The Haverstraw Police Department would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the New York State Police, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Clarkstown Police Department, the Rockland County Intelligence Center, Rockland County REACT, the Clarkstown Police CERT, and the Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for their vital assistance and support throughout the incident.

This situation could have had a tragic outcome, but due to the discipline, restraint, and tactical expertise of all officers on scene, it ended without further injury to thesuspect, officers, or members of the public.

More information to follow as this is still an active investigation.
