PUD Approved Following Town Board Vote

By Idy Perl
After heated public meetings and controversy, the Ramapo Town Board voted on Wednesdsay night to approve PUD, Planned Unit Development, in Ramapo.
The new law will provide the flexibility for developers to submit proposals to build mixed-use developments on properties of 10 acres or more. These developments will contain a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, and will provide much-needed affordable housing to Ramapo residents. Specific PUD proposals will still need to go through a review process to be approved, but the new law provides the framework for developers to work with.
Some local residents have expressed concerns regarding traffic and maintaining suburban neighborhoods, but majority of residents support the proposal in light of Ramapo's rapid growth and need for more housing and commercial development.
