Multiple Search and Rescue Teams Aid In Search For Lost Hikers

By Idy Perl
Several organizations working together successfully located
two missing bochurim, ages 19 and 21, who went missing last night.
The two hikers left their homes at approximately 3:00PM
yesterday to hike Slide Mountain, which is located in Shandaken and is the
highest peak in the Catskills. After several hours when their families realized
they weren’t coming home, they quickly reached out to Chaverim to
start a search. At around 7:00 the two hikers got cell service for a few
minutes and called their family to let them know that they were on a certain
trail and were staying there.
Multiple search agencies assisted with the search, including the Catskills Hatzalah Search and Rescue team, Shandaken Police, NYS DEC Forest Rangers, Rockland Chaverim, NY State Police, Matzil Search and Rescue Team, NYS Police Drone Unit, and more.
After a lengthy, thorough search that went on all night, the
two hikers were found at around 9AM this morning. They were seen by Hatzolah on
scene and are Baruch Hashem in stable condition.
