MTA Metro-North Celebrates Record Ridership and Service Performance in 2024

By Rockland Daily Staff

Governor Kathy Hochul recently highlighted the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Metro-North Railroad, which achieved its strongest performance yet in 2024, with on-time service exceeding 98%.

This marks the fifth consecutive year of performance above 97%. Additionally, Metro-North experienced significant ridership growth, with a 12.1% increase from 2023. To further improve service, Governor Hochul proposed major investments in Hudson Valley rail infrastructure, aiming to increase capacity, reduce delays, and shorten travel times by up to 15 minutes on certain routes.

Metro-North's service achievements come alongside ongoing projects aimed at enhancing accessibility and resiliency. This includes the completion of ADA upgrades at several Harlem Line stations and continued work on the Penn Station Access project. Furthermore, efforts to combat climate change-related flooding have led to track elevation projects that have reduced disruptions during storms.

With continued investments in infrastructure and service improvements, Metro-North remains a vital part of the region’s transportation network, enhancing connectivity and providing efficient service to its riders.
