Monsey on Measles Watch: Health Dept Warns Parents of Potential Exposure
By Rockland Daily Staff
The Rockland County Health Department has confirmed a case of measles in Monsey and has reached out to parents whose children may have been exposed. Anyone who visited the same doctor’s office at the same time as the infected child last week has also been contacted, Rockland Daily confirmed with one of the parents who received the call.
Health officials are urging all exposed children to receive the measles booster immediately to prevent further spread. Parents are advised to monitor for symptoms such as fever, rash, and cough, and to contact their healthcare provider with any concerns.
This comes just one month after the second measles case in Rockland County was reported this year. That earlier patient, unrelated to this new case, had recently traveled abroad and sought medical care after developing a rash. Health officials are checking anyone who may have been in contact to ensure they are protected.
Measles spreads easily through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. Those who are unvaccinated are especially at risk. While most people recover, complications can include pneumonia, brain infections, and, in rare cases, death.
Health authorities stress the importance of staying up to date on vaccinations to protect families and the community.
