Major Tractor-Trailer Crash on Route 17 South Causes Hours-Long Closure Near Monsey

By Rockland Daily Staff

A serious accident late last night on Route 17 South, just outside the Monsey area, brought traffic to a standstill after two tractor-trailers collided, causing extensive damage and a hazardous fluid spill. The crash occurred on a stretch of highway heavily relied upon by Monsey residents for daily travel, intensifying the disruption as emergency crews worked through the night.

The impact between the two trucks left debris scattered across multiple lanes and resulted in a significant spill that required specialized cleanup. Ramsey Rescue and Ramsey Police responded promptly, securing the area, assessing hazards, and directing traffic away from the crash zone. Additional units were called in to manage the cleanup and ensure the safety of motorists.

The southbound lanes remained closed for several hours as authorities worked to remove the damaged vehicles, address the spill, and clear debris. Commuters experienced substantial delays, with some being rerouted onto local roads until the highway was deemed safe to reopen.
