Nationwide CodeRED Security Breach Impacts West Haverstraw Users
The Village of West Haverstraw is warning residents about a nationwide outage and data breach affecting Onsolve’s CodeRED platform, the third-party alert system the village uses to send emergency and informational messages.
According to village officials, West Haverstraw is among hundreds of agencies across the country impacted by this cybersecurity incident. The breach occurred on CodeRED’s systems, not within the village’s own networks, but officials say they are urging caution to protect residents.
CodeRED has advised that user information stored in its system may have been accessed. This could include names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords associated with user accounts.
Residents who signed up for CodeRED and used the same password for other online accounts are being strongly encouraged to change those passwords immediately as a precaution. Officials add that even those who are unsure whether they enrolled in CodeRED should consider changing their passwords as a safety measure.
The village is also advising CodeRED users to contact credit bureaus and monitor their accounts to ensure that their personal identifying information has not been misused.
