Declutter Diaries: Baby Essentials

By Y.M. Lowy

Welcome to Declutter Diaries! This week, we’re excited to focus on the adorable belongings of our tiniest family member. Baby gear has a magical way of filling our homes! While gifts from family and hand-me-downs from friends are wonderful, they can sometimes lead to cozy clutter! Let's organize the tiny newborn's or spunky toddler’s necessities.

Organize This:

Often, a house can already be filled with the belongings of an entire family, and the thought of accommodating a new baby along with all the necessary gear can feel overwhelming. Using storage solutions, like over-the-door hangers to store diapers and other baby items, can help keep everything organized and make it fit comfortably.

Consider using a small caddy organizer to create a portable changing station with all the essentials in one place. You can keep this caddy near your bed or move it around the house with you.

For bath time essentials, such as baby soaps, splash toys, and even an extra pacifier, a quick-drying bath toy organizer can be very useful.

Some items can help simplify the process of keeping baby supplies clean. For example, a bottle rack can make bottle washing easier, while small pacifier case holders will prevent you from having to constantly sterilize pacifiers that have been misplaced in dusty drawers or diaper bags.

Lastly, keeping baby clothes organized can be challenging, especially since they are so tiny and easily unraveled. Small foldable drawer organizers can help keep onesies, socks, bibs, and hats neat.

One-Item Purge Challenge

Over time, diaper cloths and blankets can start to show their age. It’s a great idea to take a little time to go through them and find any that might be stained, torn, or not quite usable anymore. Of course, we’re not talking about that favorite worn blanket your child can’t sleep without!

Myth Buster

Myth: The baby won’t notice the mess.

Truth: Maybe not, but you will. When the space is functional and every item has a home, feedings, diaper changes, and bedtime all go more smoothly. A tidy space means less stress, quicker cleanup, and a calmer parent. And that’s something your baby will notice.

Did You Know?

In just the first year, a baby can go through around 2,700 diapers! Having a calm, organized space to keep all the essentials close by makes everyday changings feel a little easier and a lot more peaceful.

How Do You Do It?

Where do you keep those extra diapers and wipes? Are you part of the “bulk-buy and stash” team, hoarding supplies in every nook and cranny? Or do you prefer just a small pile in a nearby drawer for easy access?
