3-Alarm Fire in Monsey; Dozens of Visiting Girls Safely Evacuated
By Rockland Daily Staff
A large 3-alarm structure fire broke out at 161 Remsen Avenue in Monsey, prompting a massive emergency response and the safe evacuation of all occupants.
The building was occupied by a group of girls at the time of the fire. Thanks to the swift actions of Chaverim, all of the girls were safely evacuated without reported civilian injuries.
A total of nine fire departments responded to the scene, along with Ramapo Police, Spring Hill EMS, and Rockland Paramedics. The fire quickly escalated to three alarms as crews worked to contain the blaze.
Several firefighters sustained minor injuries during the response, including smoke inhalation. One firefighter also fell into a mikvah while operating on scene. All injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
The fire has since been knocked down, and crews remain on scene conducting overhaul operations. Fire inspectors, along with the Rockland County Sheriff’s BCI unit, are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
