Safety Improvements At West Central and Decatur

Safety Improvements At West Central and Decatur

By Idy Perl

In response to the concerns of local residents, several new safety features will be installed on West Central Avenue by Decatur Avenue. Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht told Rockland Daily that the road will be improved as more pedestrians now frequent the area.

New streetlights have been installed and O&R has been asked to prioritize powering the lights as soon as possible. In the meantime, temporary solar-powered lights have been placed there to light up the street and improve visibility.

New crosswalks and lowered curbs will be installed as well, and a flashing yellow crosswalk sign has been ordered to warn drivers to look out for pedestrians at the crosswalk. Specht also mentioned that new crosswalks and lowered curbs will be getting installed on Old Nyack Turnpike next week as the town continues to work on improving pedestrian safety around Ramapo.

Specht thanked the Highway Superintendent Fred Brinn and his department for working so quickly and effectively to put in the new crosswalks.

The local community thanks Town Supervisor Michael Specht for overseeing these safety improvements, which will dramatically increase the safety of pedestrians in our community, especially those walking at night.
