Rockland Generates Warmth Over Yom Tov
by M.C. Millman
After getting the call that many residents in Montreal had no electricity due to a severe ice storm, Chaverim of Rockland swung into action, sending generators to those in need.
Chaverim of Rockland stores generators for a similar situation, which happen all too often in Rockland County. This time, the generators went to help fellow Yiddien much further away who would otherwise have had no electricity for the entire three-day Yom Tov after an ice storm that began on Wednesday, April 5, left 1.3 million customers without electricity. Five hundred thousand of those customers are located in Montreal.
“This is a crisis,” Quebec’s economy and energy minister, Pierre Fitzgibbon, said in a news conference following the storm. “Montreal is devastated right now.”
