Rockland County Added to State Drought Watch
By Akivah W.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Rockland County has been placed under New York State’s expanded drought watch, now covering 50 counties across the state.
The action follows months of below-normal rainfall, low stream flows, and declining groundwater levels. While no mandatory restrictions are in place, residents are being urged to conserve water wherever possible, especially those relying on private wells.
Officials encourage simple steps such as watering lawns only when necessary, fixing leaks, using water-efficient fixtures, and limiting outdoor water use. By taking these voluntary measures, the community can help ensure that local water supplies remain adequate during this dry period.
The DEC and U.S. Geological Survey continue to monitor conditions and provide guidance on water management for the county.
