Residents Launch Petition for Critical Safety Improvements at Old Nyack Turnpike & Hungry Hollow Road

Residents are coming together to call for immediate safety improvements at the intersection of Old Nyack Turnpike and Hungry Hollow Road, launching a community petition urging local officials to address what many describe as one of the area's most challenging intersections.

For years, drivers have struggled to safely enter and exit the intersection, often facing long delays, backups, and confusion as vehicles compete for openings in traffic. But beyond the inconvenience lies a much greater concern: the safety of the many children, families, pedestrians, and cyclists who cross this roadway every day.

The petition calls for the installation of a three-way stop and the relocation of the existing nearby crosswalk directly to the intersection, creating a safer and more organized traffic pattern for everyone who uses the area.

While any traffic control changes would require Rockland County's involvement and approval, residents are hopeful that county and local officials can work collaboratively to address longstanding safety concerns at the intersection. Community members believe that when local municipalities speak with one voice, it sends a stronger message about the urgency and importance of protecting public safety.

Supporters emphasize that this effort is not about slowing traffic or creating inconvenience—it is about bringing order to an intersection that currently relies on chance, improving pedestrian safety, and ensuring that families can travel through their neighborhood with greater confidence.

Community members hope the effort will help move the project forward and improve safety at the intersection of Old Nyack Turnpike and Hungry Hollow Road.
