Ramapo Police Unveil 8 New Patrol Vehicles with Modern Design and Enhanced Reliability

Committed to public safety, the Ramapo Police Department is rolling out eight new marked patrol vehicles over the coming weeks. Police vehicles assigned to patrol often operate around the clock, leading to accelerated mileage and wear compared to civilian vehicles. To maintain operational efficiency and responsible fleet management, the department routinely replaces aging vehicles that are no longer reliable. Some outgoing vehicles are repurposed for other municipal functions.

As with law enforcement agencies across the country, patrol vehicles in Ramapo are essential to deliver timely and effective service. The department has found that a three-year service life is optimal for front-line patrol vehicles. Extending usage beyond this period has consistently led to reduced reliability and increased maintenance costs. As a result, approximately one-third of the Department’s patrol fleet is replaced each year.

In addition to improving performance and reliability, the latest fleet update includes a refreshed, modernized vehicle design. Replacing the darker graphics that have been in use since 2013, the new look was created by a team of officers under the direction of the Chief.

“The goal of this new design is to modernize the appearance of our vehicles while ensuring that they remain clearly identifiable as Ramapo Police vehicles”, said Chief Dan Hyman. “Residents should feel confident approaching our officers when they need help, and that starts with visible, professional-looking patrol cars”.

The Town of Ramapo and the Chief of Police remain committed to ensuring that their officers are equipped with the tools they need to serve and protect the community effectively and safely.
