Ramapo Police Officer Assaulted During Mental Health Response

Ramapo Police Officer Assaulted During Mental Health Response

By Idy Perl

Last night, a Ramapo Police officer was assaulted while responding to a call involving a patient experiencing a mental health episode.

The police received a call from mental health workers who were being threatened by a Ramapo resident experiencing a mental health episode. Upon arrival, the police found that the resident was aggressive and combative, and was resisting attempts to be transported to the hospital for  evaluation.

While the officers were trying to take him into custody, the resident kicked one of the officers in the neck. The officer sustained injuries, and was treated at a local hospital.

The resident was eventually taken to the hospital and charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree (Assault on a Police Officer) and other offenses.
