Ramapo Police activate drone patrol pilot on Route 59

By Yisroel R.

Thursday night, the Town of Ramapo Police Department activated Supervisor Michael Specht’s Business District Safety Initiative pilot program, deploying the Town’s Paladin DFR drone system to enhance public safety in local commercial areas.

The drone technology, rolled out as part of the initiative backed by Supervisor Michael Specht and the Town Board, is being used to monitor business districts and nearby parking areas, with the goal of keeping shoppers, employees, and visitors safe. Police officials said the system allows officers to quickly identify suspicious activity and respond without delay.

Earlier in the day, Ramapo Police’s Community Engagement Unit spent several hours in the area distributing approximately 100 informational flyers to local businesses and members of the public to raise awareness about the new initiative and explain how it works.

Police said that any suspicious activity observed during drone operations will prompt an immediate response. Thursday night’s deployment focused on Route 59, at the busy commercial shopping areas.

Police officials thanked Supervisor Specht and the Town Board for their continued support of the initiative, saying the use of Drone technology represents another proactive step toward protecting the public and supporting local businesses.
