Quick Response by Spring Valley Fire Department Prevents Major House Fire

By Y. Ganz

A potential disaster was averted Friday afternoon after a quick and heroic response by the Spring Valley Fire Department to a reported house fire on Stephens Place in Spring Valley.

When the first arriving chief reached the scene, he immediately entered the home and discovered that a fireplace starter, which had been placed inside a cabinet above the stove, had ignited due to heat. The burning starter then caused the surrounding cabinet to catch fire. Acting without hesitation, the chief quickly extinguished the flames, preventing what could have become a major house fire within seconds.

Thanks to the swift and decisive actions of the Spring Valley Fire Chief, the home was saved from extensive damage.

The Monsey Fire Department, South Spring Valley Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Department, and Ramapo Police Department also responded to the scene to assist.
