Power Restored After Overnight Transformer Fires Cause Widespread Outages in Monsey Area

By Rockland Daily Staff

Power has been restored across parts of Rockland County after overnight transformer fires caused widespread outages affecting thousands of residents.

Authorities say the outages began late at night after multiple transformer fires were reported, including one at 6 Melnick Drive, which led to significant power disruptions throughout the Monsey area. At the height of the outage, approximately 7,000 Orange & Rockland customers were without electricity.

The power loss also knocked out numerous traffic signals across Monsey, creating hazardous driving conditions overnight. Police urged motorists to use caution and treat all dark intersections as four-way stops while crews worked to restore service.

Orange & Rockland crews responded to the scene and worked through the night to repair the damage and bring power back online.

Officials confirmed that power has since been restored and traffic lights in the affected areas should now be functioning normally.
