Old Nyack–Saddle River Intersection and Roadway Upgrade Nears Reality, Residents Urge Faster Action on the Ground
After years of advocacy and planning, the community is calling for accelerated engineering and construction as traffic and safety concerns continue to grow.
As previously reported by Rockland Daily on multiple occasions, the long-awaited improvements at Old Nyack Turnpike and Saddle River Road are moving closer to reality following years of community advocacy and coordination with local officials.
The proposed project includes dedicated turning lanes on all approaches and a comprehensive redesign of the intersection and surrounding roadways to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and address longstanding traffic and pedestrian safety hazards.
Residents recognize and appreciate the significant efforts of both Town of Ramapo and Rockland County officials in advancing this critical project.
However, with engineering currently projected to continue until May 2027 and construction potentially extending into summer 2028, residents are urging the Town and its engineers to make an all-out effort to accelerate engineering and construction, dedicating every available resource to bringing this project to reality as soon as possible.
The urgency is driven not only by existing traffic congestion and hazardous roadway conditions, but also by neighboring developments that have already begun construction. These projects are expected to bring additional construction traffic and increased roadway demands, making the improvements critical both during ongoing construction and for the area's future growth.
While the community appreciates the progress made, residents emphasize that these urgent traffic and safety concerns cannot wait another two years. The community is calling for a concentrated, full-scale effort to expedite every stage of the project, from engineering and approvals through construction, with the goal of getting work underway and completing the permanent improvements at the earliest possible opportunity.
With the project closer than ever to becoming a reality, residents remain appreciative of the commitment from both Town and County officials, while emphasizing the urgent need to turn years of planning into action on the ground.
The plans are moving forward, the commitment is there, and the community is eager to see construction begin. When it comes to traffic and pedestrian safety, every day counts.
