O&R Offers Programs And Tips In Preparation For Winter

By Idy Perl
As the winter (slowly) sets in, O&R is offering multiple programs and sharing energy-saving tips to help customers save on their heating and electricity bills. Due to the rising cost of natural gas delivery, O&R is warning customers that energy bills might be higher this winter as compared to last year.
O&R offers various payment plans and has a Budget Billing program, which allows customers to pay off their bills throughout the year rather than all at once. Visit Payment Plans and Assistance, for more information.
There are also various government programs available to help customers get discounts on their monthly energy bills. As of November 1st, NY's Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is open and eligible customers can apply to receive assistance. For more information visit Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) New York, and to apply visit myBenefits.ny.gov .
O&R also shared several tips to help customers lower their monthly bills by conserving energy:
- Set thermostats at the lowest comfortable temperature. Each degree higher increases heating costs.
- Clear area around heating and cooling vents. Carpets, furniture, and other objects can block vents and prevent heated air from circulating in your home.
- Replace conventional light bulbs with LED bulbs, which are up to 10 times more energy efficient.
- Unplug electronics when they’re not in use. Some high-energy devices use electricity even when they’re turned off.
