Nyack Launches ID Verification System for Water Workers to Prevent Scams
By Y.M. Lowy
The Village of Nyack has announced a new safety initiative aimed at protecting residents from impersonation scams involving utility workers.
Under the new program, all Water Department employees have been issued official identification cards featuring a secure QR code that links directly to a verification page on the Village’s website. The system allows residents to quickly confirm the identity of workers before allowing access to their homes.
Officials say the move is designed to prevent bad actors from posing as municipal employees, a tactic that has been reported in various communities.
Residents are encouraged to remain cautious and verify anyone claiming to represent the Village by either scanning the QR code on the ID card or contacting the Water Department directly at 845-358-0641.
Nyack officials noted that the village is the first municipality in Rockland County to implement this type of verification system.
