Nyack Launches Free Electric “Hoppy” Shuttle With First Weekend of Service

Nyack’s new free electric shuttle has officially hit the streets, with the village launching its “Hoppy” service over the weekend after months of planning.

As previously reported by Rockland Daily, the village announced plans in May for the small electric shuttle, designed to provide free on-demand rides between locations throughout Nyack and make it easier for residents and visitors to get around without a car.

The six-passenger electric vehicle, which carries five passengers and a driver, began service on Friday and operated throughout the weekend. Riders can request a pickup using the Ride Circuit app or hail the shuttle on the street when space is available.

Hoppy operates within the Village of Nyack and is intended to provide transportation to downtown businesses, the waterfront, local bus stops, the Marina parking lot, and other key destinations across the village.

The vehicle was purchased with a $50,000 grant from Rockland County and provides fully electric, zero-emission transportation.

The shuttle will also operate on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the village saying the service can help residents travel to and from their polling places.

Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, who is currently running as the Democratic candidate for State Senate District 38 against Republican State Senator Bill Weber in Tuesday’s election, has launched the shuttle as part of the village’s efforts to expand local transportation options.

Regular Hoppy service is expected to operate Thursday through Sunday, with Thursday service beginning with hours aimed at visitors to the downtown Farmers’ Market.
