Nyack Planning Free “Hoppy” Shuttle to Connect Village

By Y.M. Lowy

The Village of Nyack is preparing to launch a new free shuttle service designed to make it easier to get around without a car.

The service, called “Hoppy,” is expected to begin operating later this summer and will offer on-demand rides between locations throughout the village to reduce traffic into the downtown area and ease parking.

The shuttle is intended to link key spots such as the downtown, the marina parking area, and the Route 59 corridor.

The vehicle itself will be a small electric shuttle provided by GemCar, with space for up to five passengers and a driver. It will operate on local roads within the village.

Riders are expected to request pickups through a phone-based system, app, or web service, though final details are still being worked out. Pickup points will be spread throughout the village, with possible accommodations for those who need more direct access.

The shuttle is being funded through a county grant, while ongoing operations will be covered using hotel tax revenue rather than property taxes. The service is also intended to support local businesses by making it easier for visitors to reach shops, restaurants, and waterfront areas.
