North Rockland Youth Police Academy Begins Spring 2026 Session
By Rockland Daily Staff
The Spring 2026 session of the North Rockland Youth Police Academy officially began last week, welcoming a new group of recruits eager to learn about careers in law enforcement.
The opening class featured an “Introduction to Policing” presentation by New York State Trooper Briana Gigante, a former North Rockland High School student. Trooper Gigante spoke with recruits about the hiring and background process required to become a police officer, while also sharing details about her own path into law enforcement. She highlighted the many opportunities available within the field and encouraged participants to pursue their goals.
Recruits were also introduced to their drill instructor, Sergeant Michael Canavan, who greeted the group and offered motivating words as they begin the program. Sergeant Canavan also provided an overview of what participants can expect throughout the academy, which will include training, teamwork, and lessons about the responsibilities of policing.
The North Rockland Youth Police Academy is designed to help build positive relationships between local youth and law enforcement while giving students a better understanding of the work officers perform each day. Officials say they are looking forward to an engaging and successful session with this year’s recruits.
