New York Farmers’ Markets Get $1.12 Million Boost from Governor Hochul
By Y.M. Lowy
After National Farmers’ Market Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 25 farmers’ market organizations across New York will be getting a boost of more than $1.12 million through the Farmers’ Market Resiliency Grant Program. That’s over $870,000 more than last year.
“Our farmers’ markets are some of our greatest assets in getting healthy, fresh, New York-grown food directly into the communities who need them most,” Governor Hochul said.
The funding comes after Governor Hochul warned about the impact of federal cuts to SNAP, which could affect both farmers and families who rely on the program.
In 2024, more than 400,000 SNAP transactions happened at farmers’ markets through the FreshConnect Program, bringing in over $10 million for local farmers.
