As the secular new year dawns, so does a new minimum wage for residents of New York City, Long Island, and Westchester as reported by Rockland Daily here.
Starting January 1st, the minimum wage will be a mandatory $16 per hour, gradually increasing to $17 by 2026. In the rest of New York State, it will increase to $15 this year.
Home care aides are seeing a separate bump in pay to $18.55 per hour.
New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said, "The elevation of the minimum wage serves as a lifeline for New Yorkers struggling to make ends meet as costs rise. Steady, multi-year changes allow businesses time to adjust while providing low-wage workers the ability to better support themselves and their families."
