New “Krakow” Beis Medrash Opens in Suffern Area
By Rockland Daily Staff
This past Shabbos, a new beis medrash was officially opened in the Suffern area. The shul, named “Even Yisrael Krakow,” is dedicated to the memory of the great tzaddikim who lived in the historic city of Krakow.
The beis medrash is under the leadership of Harav Sholom Kahana shlit”a, a son of the Netzaḥ Menachem Spinka Rebbe, and a son-in-law of Harav Naftali Spiegel shlit”a of Boro Park.
Located a short distance from the well-known Suffern Hospital, the new shul is expected to serve many local residents as well as visitors who come to the area for simchos, and, unfortunately at times, for medical needs. Having a warm and welcoming shul with a mikveh nearby is seen as a significant comfort and support for cholei Yisrael and those accompanying them.
For the inaugural Shabbos, Rabbi Kahana delivered a derashah before Kabbalas Shabbos, outlining the foundations of the new kehillah. He spoke about the community’s commitments, including strengthening the atmosphere of tefillah by refraining from speaking during davening, and fostering a connection to the holy tzaddikim of Krakow, among them the Tosafos Yom Tov zt”l.
