Multiple Family Members Treated for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning; Officials Stress Importance of Calling Hatzoloh Immediately

Hatzoloh, the Tallman Fire Department, and Faist EMS responded Friday night to a home on Bolger Lane after a carbon monoxide alarm sounded and several children began exhibiting symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Emergency responders quickly and provided medical care at the scene. Their swift response is credited with preventing what could have been a far more serious tragedy.

According to responders, the father initially walked to the local police station to seek out an officer rather than immediately calling Hatzoloh, losing valuable time during a life-threatening emergency.

"Every minute matters in a carbon monoxide incident," a local EMT told Rockland Daily. "Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and can become deadly very quickly. Calling Hatzoloh immediately gives patients the best chance of receiving lifesaving treatment without delay."

Emergency personnel emphasized that anyone whose carbon monoxide alarm activates or who suspects carbon monoxide exposure should leave the building immediately, call 911 or Hatzoloh without delay, and never re-enter the home until it has been declared safe.
